Description Role & responsibilities

The Cardiac Anesthesiologist is responsible for providing comprehensive anaesthesia care to patients undergoing cardiac and thoracic surgical procedures. The role includes pre-operative evaluation, intra-operative anaesthesia management, post-operative critical care, and coordination with cardiac surgeons, perfusionists, and ICU teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities


Pre-operative Care

Perform detailed pre-anaesthetic evaluations for cardiac surgery patients.
Assess cardiac function, comorbidities, and surgical risks.
Plan anaesthesia techniques appropriate for cardiac procedures.
Obtain informed consent and explain anaesthesia risks and benefits.

Intra-operative Care

Administer anaesthesia for cardiac surgeries including CABG, valve replacements, congenital heart surgeries, and minimally invasive cardiac procedures.
Manage invasive monitoring (arterial lines, central venous lines, pulmonary artery catheters).
Conduct and interpret Transesophageal Echocardiography (TEE), if credentialed.
Coordinate with perfusionists during cardiopulmonary bypass.
Ensure haemodynamic stability and patient safety throughout surgery.

Post-operative Care

Transfer patients to Cardiac ICU and provide post-operative anaesthesia and pain management.
Participate in post-operative rounds and ventilator management.
Manage complications such as arrhythmias, bleeding, and haemodynamic instability.

Clinical Governance & Teamwork

Work closely with cardiac surgeons, intensivists, nursing staff, and technicians.
Ensure compliance with hospital protocols, NABH/JCI standards, and safety guidelines.
Participate in audits, clinical meetings, and quality improvement initiatives.

Qualifications & Experience

MD / DNB / DA in Anaesthesiology.
Fellowship / DM / specialized training in Cardiac Anesthesia preferred.
Valid medical registration with UP Medical Council.

Working Conditions

Involves emergency duties, night shifts, and on-call responsibilities.
High-acuity clinical environment requiring attention to detail and stamina.
Salary 27.5-42.5 Lacs P.A.
